Spark Daddy recommends that all homeowners consider whole-house surge protection from a professional electrician in Pacific, MO. Lightning strikes cost homeowners billions every year. Much of that cost comes out of pocket, but a whole-home surge protector helps prevent lightning damage and other electrical surges. Lightning isn’t your only concern. Surges and spikes can originate in your home as well, and those can cause significant damage, too.
Seriously phenomenal service.
We plan to use them again very soon!

A common question we get from homeowners is whether electricians install whole-house surge protection for new construction homes. The answer has traditionally been no. That changed with the 2020 update to the National Electrical Code (NEC). Still, builders generally opt for just a Type 2 whole-home surge protector. We recommend layering both Type 1 and Type 2 along with Type 3 near your devices.
We recommend scheduling an in-home consultation for surge protection installation. During that appointment, we can perform an inspection and provide recommendations on different types of surge protectors.
The electrical line for your house carries the power from the grid into your home through the electrical panel. The line side of your panel is where a Type 1 surge protection device (SPD) goes. It provides your home with the best protection against lightning strikes. It also protects you against bad grid power. A common example is a blown transformer that sends a surge into your house.
The other side of the electrical panel is the load side. This is where a Type 2 SPD goes. Its job is to protect your home from internal surges and spikes. They may still occur, but the SPD will redirect them into the ground. That way, a surge doesn’t damage your panel, wiring, and devices. It also provides added protection against a catastrophic lightning strike.
Even with a Type 1 and Type 2 SPD, you should use Type 3 or local protection. You can even upgrade your outlets with integrated surge protection. This way, all of your devices always have protection. Replace your surge protectors every five years or so. Never daisy-chain them, and avoid extension cables.
