Did you know Americans spend billions because of electrical surges and spikes annually? Worse yet, much of that cost comes from the homeowner’s pocket. That’s why Spark Daddy recommends whole-house surge protection in Chesterfield, MO. A whole-home surge protector can protect you against direct lightning strikes to your home. It can also safeguard against surges and spikes that originate in the home. You may even be eligible for a deduction on your homeowner’s insurance.
Seriously phenomenal service.
We plan to use them again very soon!

A common question we get from Chesterfield residents is whether home builders include whole-house surge protection in newly constructed houses and office buildings. The answer has traditionally been no. That has changed with the 2020 updates to the National Electrical Code (NEC). Still, builders will generally only include a Type 2 whole-home surge protector. We recommend installing a Type 1 and a Type 2 for a layered defense. If you’re unsure what you have, we’d gladly inspect your electrical panel.
What is the difference between a Type 1 and Type 2 whole-home surge protector? The main difference is where we install them. A Type 1 device goes on the line side, while a Type 2 device goes on the load side. Type 1 devices will also have a higher clamping threshold. The clamping threshold dictates how much voltage there needs to be before the device activates. Once activated, it channels the electricity into the ground.
Type 1 surge protection provides the best defense against direct lightning strikes. It will also protect against anomalous power from the grid, a common cause of which is a blown transformer. Type 2 surge protection will give your home added protection against lightning strikes. It also protects against internal surges and spikes, which are commonly caused by air conditioners, generators, major appliances, and so forth. There’s also Type 3 surge protection, which is local to the devices. We can add integrated Type 3 protection to your outlets.
